Best Places to Work Down the Shore for the Summer | The Garbage Blog

If you're lucky enough to live down the shore for the summer, the job you land for those 3 odd months will shape your whole future.

The core memories you make, the cash you can stack, the broads (or bros! s/o soul sistas) you may meet... It's careful to plan carefully for your lifestyle and what you want your lifestyle to be.

Best Places to Work Down the Shore for the Summer

Restaurants

Nothing has served us better than the people who serve us... Great for people who are night owls and thrive in fast-paced environments.

I'd wager about 90% of Dirtbags have worked in a restaurant - rich and poor dirtbags - it's really a level playing field for all of humanity.

Whether you're a line cook or a busboy a busy restaurant is a beautiful, trash ballet of efficiency that prepares you for any career in your future.  It's a test of your stamina, your mental acuity, and charm, that typically translates directly to the tips in your pocket.

So get it while you're young, and a deep discount on Corona for all your buddies this summer.

Novelty Snack Shops

This is a bit different than a restaurant vibe, and great for picking up college chicks or divorced moms...

You could be scooping ice cream, blending smoothies, or slinging salt water taffy.

The bonus here is that these shops are usually air conditioned, and closed by 9 PM so you have plenty of time to party after work.

Also, these jobs are usually pretty EASY but you gotta make a lot of small talk with people who are retired.

The negatives are that you likely don't get a free meal (other than sugar) and you likely don't make big tips (if any at all).

Landscaping

This job is for people who don't like people - cuz plants are never gonna talk back to ya.

It can be peaceful, serene, and very rewarding to tend to lawns. So much so you could probably smoke - special burnies - all day, and no one would care.

The worst problem you have is a broken lawnmower, in which case, call your union supervisor, seems like his problem.

You also gotta get up real early, which isn't for everyone, but you do can a smoking bod from all that exercise...

Don't let that stop you from partying all night - just change your sleeping hours to be up all night when you need to.

Golf Courses & Country Clubs

This one usually employs the least amount of Dirtbags, so if you're interested, you gotta act early to lock in one of these roles.

The benefits are the cash - the patrons have it and you can manipulate them into tipping big as flex amongst drunk golfers.

The negatives are that you usually have to wear some odd uniform, but they usually launder it for ya, so it could be worse.

This one has the biggest likelihood of driving a golf cart around all day - angle for a beer cart attendant role.

Lifeguard

This is by far the hottest of the roles listed here.  All lifeguard are undisputedly hot - figuratively and metaphorically, because they sit in the sun all day.

You will get a sick tan.

You will meet chicks and dudes alike.

You may get melanoma.

But it's likely the hardest and role with the most responsibility, on this list.  You are literally GUARDING LIVES, so take it seriously.  Partying must be strictly limited.

But enjoy your time in the chair, you look good up there.

Amusement Parks

This one is likely the least romantic of the places to work, but it is one for the thrill seekers.

There seems to be a large overlap of hot girls that are really into horror that also work at amusement parks.  And have septum piercings.

So if that's your type - go for it.

You still get to be outside almost everyday, and not barring your skin like those cocky lifeguards.

Babysitters

You want to go to the shore, but need a place to live and you want as much free food as possible.

Also, you don't have any skills so you can't work at place that requires any training... But you had siblings, be a babysitter!

Your pay is likely gonna be under the table, and it's generally pretty easy, but you can't fall asleep on the job.  Just give em some iPads when you're too hungover.

What were some of your favorite summer jobs? Let us know!
