As Dirtbags, we love a real value for our money. And at AYG we really appreciate food...
So when they put the two together? Howyerdoing!? Ryan Hamilton was on the show this week, and we talked about a few of these competitions... Here's
7 Best Eating Challenges Across the USA

1. The Big Texan Steak Ranch & Brewery | Amarillo, Texas
You've seen the Route 66 Special - and you know that THE BIG TEXAN likes to challenge it's patrons to eat:
- a 72 ounce Steak
- Shrimp Cocktail
- Baked Potato
- Salad
-
with Roll & Butter
And if you do - you get the whole thing for free - a key motivator for all Dirtbags. This is likely the most storied eating challenge in the US - so hungry Dirtbags, be sure to earmark this for your future adventures.
You can check out their website for the official rules, next time you're in Amarillo.
2. Humpy's Great Alaskan Alehouse | Anchorage, AL

Seafood enthusiasts - unite! (And yes - the lady photographed here DID complete the challenge. Her name is Raina and she's a food competitor.)
This Alaskan Alehouse features the Cardiac Arrest - er - the Kodiak Arrest.
As you may have guessed, this isn't for the faint of heart. You must eat:
- 7 Crab Nuggets
- 14 inches of Reindeer Sausage
- 4 lbs of Alaskan King Crab
- Side Dishes
- Wild Berry Crisp (a house special) with Ice cream
...and all of that cost $450. Definitely a treat for the higher-earning Dirtbags.
But if you eat it in under 12:10 - you get the record for fastest consumption!
They even have a Hall of Fame on their website - to forever honor those who conquer.
(And points for the name - Humpy's - he he.)
3. The Big Fatty from Fat Sal's | SoCal & Nevada
Fat Sal's is known for late-night cravings fare that they make into sandwiches - mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers, onion rings, bacon and the like, are piled high onto a roll - that you can eat at noon, if you'd like.
This Fatty has a few locations! Ironic that the FATTY is based in Souther California... like vegans that are trying to cosplay Big Guys?? But they also have a location in Las Vegas.
The "The Big Fatty Challenge" is a 27-inch, 9 to 12 pound mega-sandwich - with cheesesteak, cheeseburgers, pastrami, chicken fingers, bacon, mozzarella sticks, fried eggs, jalapeno poppers, fries, onion rings, chili, marinara, and signature fat sauce... And you have to eat it under 45 minutes.
But before you roll into a Fat Sal's know that you have to order this challenge in advance - because shocker - people aren't ordering this daily. And it will cost you about $100 or more - so plan ahead!
4. Clinton Station Diner | Clinton, NJ

New Yorkers - you could make a day trip out of this beef challenge - and maybe even win some cash!
First - this diner is open 24/7 - because you never know when the need to be a glutton will arise. And this diner also boasts EV chargers in their parking lot, making it a perfect stop on an environmental, westward road trip.

5. Big Pie in the Sky Pizzeria | Kennesaw, GA
Pizza from Georgia? We'll allow it... as this pizzeria host the Carnivore Pizza challenge.
Two People, an 11 lb. Carnivore Pizza…
One hour to eat it all!
$60 to try… $120 if you win!!!
We love this challenge because we love a partner in crime - where would Kippy be without Foley?
And this one not only charges a reasonable rate, but they double what you paid if you win! The stakes are so low and the reward is so high - so we approve.
But again - make an appointment before you show up!
6. Brick Lane Curry House Phaal Challenge | NYC, NY & Montclair, NJ
Not so much into challenges were you eat A LOT and more interested in other extremes?
Well - spice things up with the Phaal Challenge at Brick Lane Curry House - rumored to be the HOTTEST curry in the US!
They turn up the HEAT on ya - as you must eat a 16-ounce bowl of Phaal, which is a British-Indian curry so spicy that chefs sometimes wear gas masks to cook it. And if you win, you get free beer (or a n/a drink) and a certificate.
I'd frame that cert and put it beside my Capella University Associates Degree Diploma.
This challenge was taken on by Adam from Man v Food - along with a slew of others! If you're in the area, check it out!
7. The Kitchen Sink @ The San Francisco Creamery Co. | San Francisco, CA

This is for our sweet lovers - and those who aren't lactose intolerant.
This is an ice cream shop that challenges you to eat an ice cream sundae literally inside of a "kitchen sink".
The challenge includes eating a gigantic sundae with three sliced bananas, scoops of your choice of up to 8 flavors of ice creams, 8 servings of toppings, mounds and mounds of whipped cream, chopped toasted almonds and cherries. Serves one (if you dare) to six people.
All for a price of $80.95.
We think this one is worth it for the photo alone, but we also think you should eat at least 6 of those 8 scoops.
