7 "Cuppies" in Your Cabinet | The Garbage Blog

In case youse missed it - Foley has exposed the world of CUPPIES and his affections for this household staple beverage container.  (And ofc Kippy doesn't use cuppies other than for lil Kipperino.)

A Cuppie is a plastic, novelty cup you rewash and reuse. It's likely design to be used once-ish - or maybe a few times after that. But Dirtbags love a souvenir, and a novelty glass or two has probably been in your cabinet since the 1st Clinton administration.

Here's:

7 "Cuppies" in Your Cabinet

1. The Burger King Disney Collection x 1994

If you had these cups as a kid, it's a 10/10 chance you fuck today - and likely did in high school, too.

These cups were the COOLEST thing to hit a Burger King since the Whopper.  You gave 'em 89 cents and they gave your mom something to shut you up for the rest of the day.

You always HOPED they'd have the cup with your favorite movie - but if you landed with a Snow White at least she was showing a bit of cleavage and you could live on the hope that a hottie would live with dwarfs.

Also - do yours have those cracks in the plastic from the dishwasher?

2. The Movie Cups

If there's a franchise film coming out this summer, you know Dirtbags are getting one of those collectible cups from the movie theater.

That's how they get ya - selling you a fancy cup because they know you're already spending $20+ on the concessions, so what's a small upgrade?  You need those extra ounces to avoid getting a refill mid-movie.

These are FREAKING COOL - but almost exclusively used by 8 year olds and hot girls that do Cosplay, so unfortunately, trashy.

3. Cups from the Bank

Typically these cups are 10 - 12 ounces, plastic with a small lip, sold in a sleeve of 25 units, and a white logo that will certainly come off in the dishwasher.  And you definitely got it for free. (Or even at your buddy's stag and drag.)

They're often used to collect pocket change and spare fuses - likely because the bank has a subtle reminder to give them your money on the side.

But they make a heck of a drinking cup for a ice cold Kool-Aid.

These also make a good cup for rinsing after brushing your teeth or as a pencil cup on your cubicle desk.

4. Sports Cuppies

You probably got suckered into this purchase at a pro baseball / hockey / football game when you filled it for the first time with 32 oz of Yuengling.

But if you're already getting boned by stadium prices, you may as well finish the job and get that commemorative cup to give to your kid.

Plus youse can likely sell these on eBay in like 15 years, so better not throw it out.

5. The Concert Cup

Does your wife insist on getting one of these cups every time she goes to Planet Hollywood on a Girls Night?

Mine does. And she insists it's hand-wash only.

And she usually drinks alcohol out of it - when she doesn't want anyone else to know she's drinking on a weekday.

6. The Solo Cup

If you reside with any relatives that lived through the Great Depression, you probably have store-brand Solo Cups in your cupboard that have been used and rewashed.

You probably also have new store-brand Solo cups in the cabinet - still in the plastic packaging - but those are for company.  (Grandma would never give COMPANY the rewashed Solo Cup, just her grandkids.)

And they probably have a few dents so the plastic ain't even all the same color, which is when you can make the case to finally throw 'em away.

7. Glass Cuppies

So these are glasses - as in, made of glass and not plastic, but we still count them among cuppies because of their souvenir sentiment and original purpose of use.

This could be a glass from a beer fest or wine walk you can barely remember.

One of your 2-item-minimums from the Improv.

A glass your mom stole from work when she was moonlighting at the A&W...

These glasses were originally used for something else, and you felt like you got a value because the glass was - well, GLASS and not plastic.

We think these are actually classy - but find a way to prove us wrong.

What kinda cuppies do you have in your cabinet?

Do you have the entire Disney Burger King cuppy collection? What category of cuppies did we miss? Let us know in the comments!

As always, love youse - AYG

I may be misremembering, but I think there used to be little jars of jelly that we ended up using as juice cups as a kid

Recently acquired a basic cuppie AND a shaker cuppie, as per #4 at a Blue Jays game. Only cost me around $80 CAD in stadium drinks that had me tastefully clipped by the third inning.

Minor league Sports cup for me and I bought my wife a fancy Taylor Swift plastic cup from the movie theater. That’s only a special occasion cup, aka when me, the real king of the burbs, grills chicken wings for her. My wife’s favorite meal.

The need for cuppies is hereditary. My 10 year old is currently obsessed with the World Cup ones at McDonalds. Previously, her Happy Gilmore cuppies from Subway were her prized possessions.

My bro worked at a gas station when he was a teen and that’s ALL my parents had for drinkware. Cuppies with the logo on the side!

The limited edition Welch’s jelly jar cups were the best. Tom & Jerry, Flintstones, Dinosaurs—they had all kinds of good themes. Turns out they were loaded with lead paint, but what wasn’t in the 90’s?

My best cuppie is a Lord of the Rings glass goblet from McDonald’s. It’s still in great shape although I did lose the light up part that went in the bottom.
